Dear UCSF APP Fellowship Applicants,

Thank you for applying to our program. We feel privileged to have such highly qualified applicants. UCSF seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excllence.

Applications will be accepted March 1, 2024 - April 15, 2024

We will complete application review in April with the goal of notifying applicants of potential interviews by April 30th. All candidate interviews will be done via Zoom.

The deadline for applications for this cycle is April 15, 2024.

Please submit a cover letter, CV/resume, application and letters of recommendation per the instructions below.

If you are still completing coursework, you may submit your transcript upon the award of your degree. We strongly recommend that you apply for your CA RN license now as it will expedite the NP licensing process.

Fellowship Requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree as a PA or NP (current or pending) from an accredited program earned within the 18 months preceding the start date.
  • Current AHA CPR certification
  • Current AHA ACLS certification
  • Demonstrated excellence in scholarship, communication, leadership, problem resolution, and teaching.

Before Hire

  • Graduation from an accredited AGACNP program or PA program in the previous 18 months prior to the start date.
  • Current RN and NP licensure by the California Board of Registered Nursing or current PA licensure by the California Physician Assistant Board
  • California NP furnishing license. (not applicable to Physician Assistants) 
  • NCCPA certification as a PA or ANCC or AACN certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner upon hire
  • DEA license, including schedules 2 through 5, upon start

Administrative Requirements

Any employment offer with UCSF is contingent on the following:

  • Successful background check
  • A health clearance through UCSF Occupational Health department
  • A negative substance abuse screening test
  • Verification of any documents required for the position
  • Verification of identity and eligibility to work in the USA
  • The completion of the new hire process, including all required paperwork
  • Credentialing process via the UCSF Medical Staff Services Office

Application Cycle

Please submit your application with supporting documentation no later than April 15th of the year you wish to begin your fellowship. We will interview a select number of applicants. Responses will be sent out in May, and offers will be extended in June. The fellowship starts on November 1st due to CA licensing and UCSF credentialing requirements.

The application deadline for fellowship starting in November is April 15, 2024.

  • Personal Statement reflecting on your professional goals. Please address each of the following. Maximum of 500 words combined for all three responses.

  3. Please describe your motivation for seeking training through the UCSF Surgical and Critical Care APP fellowship. Consider: What attracts you to the UCSF program? Do you have a specific specialty interest? What do you hope to gain from the fellowship?
  • Three (3) letters of professional recommendation, one from each of the following:
  • APP program professor
  • APP clinical preceptor
  • If you are working, a current supervisor. If not, an additional preceptor or professor

Selection Process

A select number of applicants will be invited for a Zoom video interview. Interviewees will be informed in June of the decision on their application. Successful applicant(s) will have ONE week from receipt to accept the offer.
